Fairfax County is seeking public views on its first-ever Community-Wide Energy and Climate Plan (CECAP). FABB encourages local rider to attend virtual public meetings on Tuesday, February 23, on energy issues and on Thursday, February 25, on transportation, development, and waste. Both meetings start at 7 pm.
FABB also encourages everyone to complete a public survey on these matters that will be available starting, Monday, February 22.
This is a great opportunity to Speak Up! to ensure our county adopts a bold plan that not only addresses green buildings, renewable energy, and electric vehicles but also includes bikeable, walkable, and transit-oriented communities as a core climate solution.
As our friends at the Coalition for Smarter Growth (CSG) have pointed out, transportation is now the #1 source of county climate emissions. Prospects for cleaner fuels and electric vehicles represent only a partial solution. We need to reduce motor vehicle usage and replace car-centric transportation with bikes, e-bikes, bikeshare, and other multimodal options that connect communities and make it easier to bike, walk, and use transit to meet daily needs.
