• Online Braddock District paving and restriping meeting set for March 11.
  • Bike lanes planned for Commonwealth Boulevard and Government Center Parkway.

FABB encourages local riders to plan now to participate in the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) virtual public meeting on proposed paving and restriping changes in the Braddock District on Thursday, March 11, at 7 pm.

This is a great opportunity to Speak Up! and help improve VDOT’s summer repaving program. Your suggestions and ideas are important because the county uses the VDOT program to implement the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan, which includes the bike infrastructure found in the Bicycle Master Plan.

The proposals for Braddock District this year include new biking facilities for:

  • Commonwealth Boulevard from Guinea Road to Sideburn Road: Adds an eastbound bike lane.
  • Government Center Parkway from Monument Drive to Waples Mill Road: Converts underutilized outside travel lanes into buffered bike lanes to mitigate speeding and improve multi-modal mobility and safety.

Register online here to participate in the virtual meeting. If you are new to Webex, the meeting platform, find instruction for use here. You also can participate by phone by dialing 1-844-621-3956 and entering this access code: 129642 0520.

For those who cannot attend the meeting on March 11, a video of the presentation will be available after the event. Comments can be submitted electronically to FCDOT through March 25, 2021.

Check out VDOT’s Northern Virginia Paving Program page for more information on road specific projects, status, maps, and contact information, which is updated weekly during the paving season.
