Shawn Newman
If you’ve notice that FABB has been more active on social media recently, the reason is Shawn Newman, who volunteered to serve as our social media coordinator and has brought a lot of energy to the position.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Shawn has lived in Northern Virginia for the past 10 years. As a kid, he rode all around the neighborhood to get himself to sports practices and school. Like many of us, he then took some time off from biking before resuming riding three years ago. Shawn said that he loved teaching his kids to ride on balance bikes and now loves to take them on increasingly longer rides. He is participating in Freezing Saddles, the Bike Arlington winter riding competition, for the second year in a row and plans to ride all winter long.
Shawn believes that to make bicycling better, we also need smart zoning to help reduce the distance residents have to travel to get what they need. Shawn will also represent FABB on the Fairfax County Trails and Sidewalks Committee.
