Thursday, June 20, is the 13thannual National Dump the Pump Day, and FABB encourages everyone to mark the day by biking to a local bus stop or Metro station.

Dump the Pump is a day when the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and public transit organizations across the country ask people to ride public transportation instead of driving a car. Started in June 2006 when gas prices were above $3 per gallon (where they seem to be heading again), this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a convenient travel option that also helps people save money.

FABB would just add that biking to a public transit station is a great way to extend the savings while adding the health benefits of riding. Metro and Capital BikeShare are making it increasingly easier to combine biking and public transit for your daily commute.

So, on the upcoming Dump the Pump Day, why not join other happy bike commuters and leave your car at home. Let us know about your experiences on Twitter with #BikeFairfax and #NationalDumpThePumpDay.
