    From the NPS press release: 

    The National Park Service (NPS) is preparing for the next chapter of the Claude Moore farm area of Turkey Run Park. On April 25, the NPS will launch a public planning effort and invite the community to share their vision for the park’s future.

    To kick-off a public comment period, the NPS will host an open house from 6-8 p.m. on April 25 in classroom 7 at the Madison Community Center located at 3829 N Stafford St. Arlington, Va. People will also have the opportunity to provide feedback online or via mail beginning April 25.

    After gathering information and hearing from the public, the NPS will develop a range of concepts for future use and enjoyment of the Claude Moore farm area of Turkey Run Park. The NPS will share these concepts with the public and provide further opportunities for feedback.

  • I-66 Trail FCDOT Community Mtg. April 27, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am Centreville Elementary School, 14330 Green Trails Blvd, Centreville, VA 20121, USA

    Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold two public information meetings on the planning and implementation of the off-corridor portions of the I-66 Outside the Beltway Bicycle/Pedestrian Trail. The meetings will include an overview of construction on I-66 by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and a review of the proposed trail along the I-66 corridor, including the off-corridor segments being funded by Fairfax County.
     
    The meeting will also include an interactive exercise with attendees to explore possible names for the new trail. Attendees will be asked to submit names and weigh in on a sampling of names that have been suggested. FCDOT will narrow the list and host an online survey of names and invite the public to vote for their choices. The final names will be presented to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board for consideration and approval. The online survey will be available May 14-June 30, 2019.

    VDOT is hosting a Public Information Meeting to share the most recent Route 7 Corridor Improvement Project design updates and to outline the details of upcoming work phases and schedules. Staff will be on hand to answer questions on specific topics such as storm water management, right of way, traffic engineering, noise walls, and more.

    VDOT's project will widen the road from four to six lanes, add shared-use paths, and make substantial intersection and other improvements along the corridor.

  • Vienna Bike Corral - Town Council Mtg. May 13, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm Town Hall, 127 Center St S, Vienna, VA 22180, USA

    The Vienna Town Council will be deciding the fate of a proposed bike corral on Church Street. Bicyclists are encouraged to attend to show support for the needed bike parking. There has been vocal opposition to removing one on-street parking space on Church Street in order to create the bike corral, which could provide bike parking for up to 12 bikes.

    The Council meeting begins at 8pm in the Vienna Town Hall Council Chambers (127 Center St. S, Vienna).

    The Fairfax Healthy Communities Coalition is hosting a debate of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Candidates for Chair.  

    Tune in for an exciting debate with all four candidates for Chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors: Alicia Plerhoples, Jeff McKay, Ryan McElveen, and Tim Chapman. The debate will be on Fairfax Public Access Channel 10's "Inside Scoop" on Monday, May 13th at 8:00 p.m.  

    Moderated by FACS Board Member and Lead Pastor at Peace Lutheran Church Rev. Sarah Scherschligt, candidates will discuss topics related to a healthy, sustainable and equitable Fairfax County, including climate change, affordable housing, transportation, land use and inclusion.

    VDOT is hosting a public information meeting on the 495 express lanes northern extension. FABB learned at the I-66 Trail update meeting that VDOT will be sharing conceptual plans for a parallel trail and improved bike/ped crossings. Please attend to learn more and speak up for bike/ped improvements as part of this project.
