FABB needs your help to ensure the Bicycle Master Plan (BMP) gets funding this year for important updates that were part of the original plan. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is hosting hearings this week on April 9, 10, and 11on the budget for fiscal year 2020 and they have made it easier to support better bicycling.

This year the Board is allowing individuals to submit public testimony via VIDEO on YouTube. This allows key decision makers to hear your voice while allowing you to speak up at a time convenient to your schedule and to avoid the trek out to the County building in the usual heavy traffic.

FABB is advocating for funding to update the Bicycle Master Plan because the five-year-old plan needs to be revised to better reflect existing conditions, which include changes in traffic regulations and improved construction practices. When the BMP was adopted in October 2014, it stated that the planned bicycle network would be updated on a five-year schedule.  WE NEED YOUR VOICE TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

Board of Supervisors Public Hearing

What should you say in the video? Videos must be limited to 3 minutes, but you don’t have to talk that long! All you need to say is your name, your town/city, and that you want the BMP update to be funded in this budget cycle. You should briefly mention that having a safe network of connected bicycle infrastructure is good for you, your family, and for the County (health benefits, environmental benefits, economic benefits, etc).

Once you complete your star turn in your own civic action video, you can submit it by visiting fairfaxcounty.gov/boardofsupervisors/budget-public-hearing-video-testimony.Video testimony will be played in front of the Board of Supervisors and audience members in the Board Auditorium.

Of course, you also may attend the public hearingsin person at the Board Auditorium at the Fairfax County Government Center (12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035) on April 9, 10 and 11. FABB encourages members and supporters available to appear in person to do so. You must sign up to speak in person and be added to the schedule. To do this, please visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/bosclerk/speakers-form.
