Updated on March 1, 2019: FCDOT has said that no new bike lanes are scheduled to be added to the roads and streets being repaved this summer in the Dranesville District.

After altering the original schedule in January, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) have resumed preparations for public meetings the 2019 paving and restriping program. The first meeting will discuss proposed changes in the Dranesville District and will be held on Monday, March 4, at 6:30 pm, in the Westgate Elementary School cafeteria at 7500 Magarity Road in Falls Church.

This is a great opportunity to learn about VDOT’s repaving program and proposed striping changes as well as speak up in support of bicycle lanes and sharrows.

Paving work in the county is planned to begin in April and last through November. Exact work dates are available about ten days prior to work beginning as contractors set schedules. In subdivisions, “no parking” signs with precise date information will be posted at least three business days before work starts.

VDOT and FCDOT will release the list of roads scheduled for repaving and restriping on this FCDOT page in late February, at which point the online comment period will open (details will be available later) and will last through 18 March 2019.
